The coffee was on at the Vanderhoof Public Library that opened its doors for the community to watch the Canadian women’s soccer team capture their first-ever Olympic title.
Chief librarian Jennifer Barg woke up early Friday, August 6, to unlock the back doors before 5 a.m.
Ten early birds arrived to cheer the team on in the multipurpose room in which 13 more would join.
Some had brought their own snacks with the library offering hot drinks and muffins.

“It turned out well,” Barg said, adding she was surprised.
“How many people want to get up at five,” she said with a laugh.
Families, sports enthusiasts and individuals of all ages made up the group watching Canada defeat Sweden 3-2 on penalty kicks at the Tokyo Games.
Mia Moutray, a Vanderhoof resident originally from Sweden was wearing Swedish sports fan apparel and taking part.
“It was a spectacular game,” Barg said, admitting it didn’t look too good at first for Canada.
“It was really tense—it went into penalties and then it into one against one, and it just was so close. It was a really good game.”
