April 16, 1955 - August 12, 2019
April MacSween (formerly Kingsley) passed away on August 12, 2019 at the age of 64 after succumbing to four years of battling cancer. April died a happy death surrounded by her family, loved ones, and friends.
April was born in Yellowknife, NWT on April 16, 1955 to a prospecting family. She was two years old when they returned to the family farm outside Nipawin, SK. She spent most of her formative years raised and nurtured on the farm with a healthy dose of Christianity. Her family moved to Vanderhoof, BC when she was thirteen, where she completed high school in 1972. April then lived on Vancouver Island before moving
to Yorkton, SK. Eventually, she ended up on a seismic crew in central Alberta where she met her future husband Blaise MacSween. In a few years, they married and had three children. They had homes in Calgary, Priddis, Okotoks, Vancouver Island, Mirror, and eventually settled in Alix, AB for the last 25 years. We would like to make a grateful thank you to the Alix community and the Immaculate Heart of Mary Parish, and the surrounding areas for the great love shared with our family over the years.
April was a great person who knew how to give of herself to those who needed it while maintaining a strong sense of herself, and we will miss her.
April is survived by her husband Blaise MacSween, sons Roderick (Jen) and Richard MacSween, daughter Christine MacSween, eight siblings, two great aunts and a great uncle, as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
April was predeceased by her mother Dorothy Kingsley, father Richard Kingsley, grandmother Mary Kingsley, and grandfather John Kingsley.
A Celebration of Life for April will be held at Christ-King Roman Catholic Church (4916 54 St, Stettler, AB) on Tuesday, August 20, 2019 at 2 pm.
The family would like to acknowledge the efforts of all the medical professionals who provided her care at the Cross Cancer Institute, Tom Baker Cancer Centre, and finally at Foothills Medical Centre, where April and her family were shown exceptional kindness in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, April's family would appreciate donations to the Alix Nature Trail Society of which she was a loyal steward for many years.
