80 YEARS

Bernadette (Bernie) Ketlo passed away on November 7, 2009 at the age of 80. She is survived and lovingly remembered by her son Sterling (Lisa) and daughters, Victoria (Stacey) Naziel and Sandra (Arnold) Peters, grandchildren, Keith Ketlo (Marie), Leslie (Valerie) Ketlo, Frank Jr. Simone, Marcy, Trevor, Gregory, Aaron, Arnold Jr., Tara, Pete, Aiyana and Austyn, and great grandchildren, Zenaida, Katrina, Blaine, Jommel and Lucien, sisters Emma Baker and Martina (Edwin) Stehr, and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. Bernie was predeceased by her husband Antoine (Tony), son Antoine Jr., daughters, Patsy, Karen, Geraldine and Jacqueline, parents, Isaac and Louise George, brothers Charlie and Fred, brother-in-law Willy Ray Baker and Mitch Ogen - who was like a brother to her. She was a respected mother, grandmother, great grandmother and community elder. She was a traditional elder and was skilled at catching and preparing salmon, tanning and sewing hides, making Indian medicine, doing intricate beadwork, sewing, knitting, crocheting, and working with birch bark. Her birch bark baskets have found their way into many homes locally and throughout the world. Bernie was a gentle, quiet soul, full of strength and wisdom. She always had a smile and a kind word. She will be sadly missed, and forever remembered. A celebration of her life was held in Stellaquo on Thursday, November 12, 2009.
