Betty Elizabeth Mary Bye

BYE, “Betty” Elizabeth Mary passed away in Penticton, BC on October 22, 2009; born on June 15, 1913 in a “little house on the prairie” near Viking, AB. Betty leaves to mourn her passing; son, Ray Hennessy (June) in Penticton and daughter, Marie Cameron in London, ON; ten grandchildren; twenty-two great grandchildren; two brothers, Bill and Charlie both of Viking, AB. She was predeceased by her baby son, Jackie; son, Robert; daughter, Ann Gerow; two grandsons, James and Donny Cameron; first husband, James Hennessy and her late husband, Alfred Bye. Betty was raised in a homestead environment. She married Jim Hennessy in 1933 and eventually they moved to British Columbia following the lumber industry along the CN rail line between Prince George and Edmonton; finally settling in Burns Lake, BC. She found employment in retail sales and through night school became involved in accounting, within the lumber industry. Following the loss of her home by fire she moved to Vanderhoof, BC where she managed the local credit union for eleven years. Betty retired to Enderby, BC in 1974 where she worked effectively to create a senior’s hall, followed by wheels on meals. She was the last living founding member of the proponents. Betty was a founding member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Nadina Chapter, in Burns Lake, BC in 1959 and served as Worthy Matron in 1962. She was also a member of the Royal Purple in Salmon Arm, BC. By her request, no funeral service will be held. Interment will take place in Viking, Alberta.
