Dorothy Brochu

April 26, 1924 – June 26, 2010

Dorothy slipped away on Saturday, June 26 surrounded by her loving family.  She leaves behind - son David (Leslie) Brochu, daughter Bonnie Brochu-Mansfield, daughter-in-law Gerry (Les) Erickson, grandchildren Christopher and Lindsay Brochu, Julie (Kevin) Kjorsvik, Ryan Mansfield, Jordan Mansfield, Jeremy (Cheryl) Brochu, Sheldon Young,  Jenny and Kyle Cruse, Hannah (Tom) Sherbo and great grandchildren Kelsi, Daniel, Maci, Riley, Brooke, Jacob,  Russell, and Nakayla.

Dorothy was predeceased by her husband Earle, sons Jamie, Russell and Terry.

Dorothy was born in South Fort George BC and as a child moved to Barkerville, BC.  Later she moved to Wells BC where her parents operated the Commodore Hotel.   After the war in 1945 her father moved the hotel, board by board to Prince George and resurrected the Hotel on 1st Avenue where Dorothy worked until she met soldier Earle Brochu home after the war.   She married Earle and they raised their family in Prince George.  In 1956 Dorothy and Earle bought a lake property on Fraser Lake where the family recreated eventually moving there in 1973.  In 1996 Dorothy left Fraser Lake to live with her son and family in Chase and then to Kamloops in 2001.

Dorothy loved Chase and Kamloops and thrived in her new community with family and friends.  Dorothy was a dedicated service volunteer in Prince George and Fraser Lake rising to the rank of Senior Regent with the Loyal Order of the Moose and helping out at the Visitor Centre so that guests to her community could fully enjoy all it had to offer.   She was an amazingly strong and thoughtful woman with a positive outlook, quick wit and hilarious nature.   Collecting costumes, jokes, crazy hats and crazy glasses brought her and those around her so much joy.  She was fun, fun loving and funny.  One never new what new trick or joke she had up her sleeve.  The family wishes to extend their heartfelt thanks to the dedicated and caring staff at RIH  6 North and most particularly to Dr. Chris Outram who extended Dorothy’s stay with us by the outstanding and personal care he took of  Dorothy over the past 10 years.

A Crazy Glasses, Crazy Hats, and Crazy Costume Celebration of Life for friends and family was held at her home on Saturday July 10, 2010 at 2:00 pm.

In lieu of flowers donations to the MS Society in honour of Bonnie Brochu-Mansfield would be appreciated.
