Douglas Kelly

July 21, 1920 to January 10, 2006

KELLY-Douglas, born Revelstoke, BC to

Marjorie Kelly (Smythe) Revelstoke and

Allan Kelly (Isle of Man). Doug attended

school in Revelstoke and joined the Rocky

Mtn Rangers Militia D Company in 1939,

then transferred to the Seaforth Highlanders,

serving in the U.K., Sicily, Italy and Holland

from 1939 to 1945. In Italy the Highlanders

were a key element in the pivotal battle of

Ortona. Doug was a BC Provincial policemen

in the Oliver area from 1948-1950. From

there he served as a Vancouver fi refi ghter for

fi fteen years, mostly at the #3 hall on Quebec

Street. During this time he married Betty (nee

Greig). Moving to Fraser Lake in 1966 they

owned Stellako Lodge on Francois Lake until

1981. Doug also ran Doug Kelly Logging.

He was the Omineca NDP MLA from 1972

to 1975. Doug was from a large family of 10

children and was predeceased by Jack, Ken,

and Phynoddree. He is survived by his loving

wife Betty, sisters, Joan, Sharry, and Mona,

brothers Chris, Patrick, and Robyn, son David

Kelly (fi rst marriage-Revelstoke) stepchildren

Ed Ponsart (Coquilam), and Lynn Gracey

(Prince George), as well as 5 grandchildren, 4

great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and

nephews. By Doug’s request there will be no

funeral service. Donations to the Alzheimer’s

Society would be appreciated.
