On Thursday, June 10, 2011 at the age of 75, Edith Erika Ptolemy passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family. Edith was born August 18, 1936 on the family farm near Busby, Alberta to the late Rudolf and Anna Lieske of Germany, the 8th of 14 children. Having grown up on the

farm, Edith retained her close ties with nature; she was an avid gardener, bird watcher, and animal lover. Her curiosity

and enthusiasm for life also led to her passion for travel. Edith camped across Canada and the United States, and her adventuresome spirit took her further abroad to Europe where she explored her family’s roots. Above all, she lived simply and in the spirit of gratitude and service to her family and community. Edith was a long-time member of the Meals on Wheels program, and a volunteer with the assisted living community at Riverside Place. Above all, Edith’s greatest passion was reserved for her family. In her quiet and unassuming way, Edith left behind a treasured legacy of unconditional love and a generosity of spirit that will not be forgotten. Edith is predeceased by her husband John Ptolemy and 6 of her siblings, and is adoringly remembered by her daughters Ann (Tim) Walstrom, Janet (John Boyce)

Ptolemy, Debbie (Hugh) Scott, and Kathy Ptolemy, and grandchildren Shane Walstrom, Tracy Briggs, Deon Soukeroff, T.J. Vannice, and Drew and Brent Scott. Family and friends are gathering for a private celebration of Edith’s life. Those wishing to donate in her memory are invited to contribute to the Ellen van Andel Cancer Clinic at St. John’s Hospital.
