In Loving Memory ~

Gene died on November 9, 2023 surrounded by family. While Gene lived in Parksville since 1995, he always considered Vanderhoof home.

He is remembered and missed dearly by his wife of almost 65 years, Patricia, and sons, Greg (Peg), Michael (Gabrielle), and Alan (Elaine) as well as his beloved grandchildren, Nicholas and Christien.

Gene was born on a farm near Lestock, Saskatchewan on October 1, 1931. He received his education at Campion College, UBC and UVic. He began his career in public administration in 1951 and prior to arriving in Vanderhoof as the Government Agent in 1957, he worked in Lillooet and Pouce Coupe.

He exemplified, by example and in words, thrift, hard work and honesty. If he received a call on Sunday morning to issue a document, it was not a problem, he would do it without complaint. His giving back to the community included terms on village council and long-term membership in the Kinsmen.

Gene's loves included fishing, hunting, golfing and dancing. Regarding dancing, it is as though the line "we play both kinds of music; country and western" was made for him. Gene was also a builder - of houses, of boats, and most importantly, of family.

Our enduring memory of him is on a dance floor or at the helm of a boat that he had built, his family aboard. Wherever he is now we expect that Charlie Pride provides the soundtrack.
