March 15, 1927 - April 7, 2022
Frank McDougall left the world peacefully on April 7th, 2022. Frank was born in Oliver, BC to George and Doris McDougall, a pioneer family in the Fairview area on the hills behind Oliver. He turned 95 on March 15th, and still had such a zest for living everyday with joy and enthusiasm.
As a young man, growing up in Oliver in the orchards of the family property, the youngest of 4, and an entrepreneurial spirit he purchased his first dump truck at 17yrs of age. He had many wonderful stories to tell his children of hauling fruit, etc. He married Belle Jacobs in 1948 and soon bought a beautiful home in Oliver. Then in the early 50's, Frank and Belle and 3 children under 5 ventured north to Vanderhoof. Three more children were born, all growing up in this area, and soon they were all heading out on their own adventures. He bestowed that zest for travel in all of his children.
Frank was a hard-working man, and found success in Construction, building up his company into a respected Road Construction Enterprise.
Another accomplishment was when he fulfilled the dream of becoming a private pilot and subsequently owned a couple of planes, many more adventures ensued. He had a soft spot for animals, and especially his dogs over the years, his last loyal companion, Ming really watched over him. Travelling was always very important and he travelled and cruised many parts of the world, but China was his most memorable of all. He marvelled at the culture and loved to talk about the trip; walking the great wall and cruising up the Yangzi River. As retirement years approached, he moved back to Oliver and continued to motorhome down to Arizona for winter months. He moved to Kelowna, then Vernon to be closer to his family the last few years, and continued to drive his van right up to age 93, taking other seniors out for lunches, visiting, shopping, appointments and to the dog park.
Family, laughter, comforts of home, good food and country music was especially important. People were drawn to him, with his infectious smile, great sense of humor, quick wit and he made friends easily. His eyes had a special twinkle when he talked of his family.
Frank is survived by his 5 children: Wayne (Dianne), Cathy (John), Debbie (Ken), Patti (David), Pam (Mike), 9 grandchildren, and 10 great-grandchildren. As well, his older sister Jean. Predeceased by son Robert and Belle.
We will all miss him, a life well lived and the circle of life has taken him on his next adventure. He made a difference in this world and his legacy will live on in his family and all who treasured his friendship.
As per his wishes, he will be laid to rest in Oliver, with a small family tribute on Father's Day weekend.
