Janey Mooney

Janey Mooney passed away peacefully at Stuart Lake Hospital on Thursday, September 7, 2006. Janey is survived by her husband Dr. Alvin Mooney, her children Marmie Cunningham, Walker (Carol) Mooney, Janette Nicholis, Louise Kaneen, Michael Mooney, Deirdre (Fred) Schoening, Fergus Mooney and Kerri (Jean-Francois) Lefebvre, her grand-children Mara (Dean) Audet, Judy Cunningham, Janey Cunningham, Sandy (Julianne) JANEY NICHOLIS MOONEY (NEE FINDLAY)Cunningham, Alvin Cunningham, Evelyn (Zak) Murakami, Dawn Mooney, Stephanie Mooney, Tim Mooney, Chris Smith, Megan (Dave) Rowbottom, Tamsin Kaneen, Nicki Schoening, Charles (Erin) Schoening, Adam (Shannon) Schoening, Luke Schoening and Erin Mooney, and her great-grandchildren Ty Audet, Tiara Audet and Sharley Audet, Walker Mooney, Justin Schoening and Madeleine Janey Schoening.Janey was born on May 16, 1914 in Port Haney, British Colum-bia, the eldest of three children. When she was 7 years old her family moved to the Yukon where she lived for 10 years, 7 years in Dawson City and three in Whitehorse. Janey loved to tell sto-ries of those years. She then moved to Vancouver to attend the University of British Columbia where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree with a teaching certifi cate. Following this she taught Latin and French and served as a guidance counsellor at Burnaby South High School for several years. Janey enjoyed her work and had a positive infl uence on the students she worked with. She met her future husband while in Burnaby, and she and Al were married on April 29, 1943. They moved to Vanderhoof in 1947. Janey will be remembered for her many contributions to the communities of Vanderhoof and Fort St. James, where she and Al have lived for the last 10 years. Janey served on the Van-derhoof School Board for many years. She also supported the Fall Fair and the Senior Citizens’ home in Vanderhoof. Janey will be deeply missed by her family and her many friends, young and old.A Service of Remembrance was held Tuesday, September 12th @ 2:30 p.m. from the Gospel Chapel (2210 Rainbow St., Vander-hoof) with Reverend Minnie Hornidge officiating.
