July 14, 2020
With great sadness we say goodbye to Joan Jones (nee Trinkes) who passed away on July 14, 2020. On New Years Day in 1945, Joan was born in the old St. John hospital, and resided in Vanderhoof until her passing.
In 1964 Joan met Barry who had recently come to town for work opportunities. They went on to marry in 1965, and for the next 53 years they made their home in Vanderhoof while raising their family. During these years Joan worked for some time at the St. John Hospital, and then for many years at the School District Maintenance Dept, before she retired to devote more time to her grandchildren.
Not only was Joan a "Working Mom" but she was also a "Hockey and Figure Skating Mom". Many early mornings and weekends were spent in the Vanderhoof arena watching her children on the ice. Summer days were spent with her family splashing around on the shores of Fraser Lake. In retirement Joan and Barry's passion was to seek out the many beautiful little lakes in the Nechako Valley for the best fishing spots.
Joan is survived by her daughter Michelle Smith (Brad), sister Joyce Young (Donny), grandchildren: Charise Smith (Riley), Tyler Langejan, Erin Adelman (Dillon), Eric Smith (Brandi), Tanaya Daku, Darius Jones and Aimee Jones, great-grandchildren: Darci Peever and Casper Adelman, great- great grandchild Rowan Clancy, as well as many nieces, nephews and other family. Joan is predeceased by her husband Barry in 2017, her son Lyle in 2015 and her parents Earl and Rose Trinkes.
Joan did not want a formal memorial service so to honour her wishes the family will gather together privately at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, and in memory of Joan, please donate generously to the Kidney Foundation of Canada, the Canadian Cancer Society or the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Canada.
