Katharina Thiessen

February 28, 2005

Katharina Thiessen went home to be with her Lord on Sunday, January 23/2005.

Katharina lived a full life that started in Hague, Saskatchewan when she was born to Johan and Anna Wall; on August 8/1924. Then in 1940 they moved to Cheslatta B.C.

In 1947 she married David Thiessen and together they raised 5 children. On their farm near the Takysie Lake, the family worked hard, and had few conveniences. Katharina helped with the market garden, the butchering, selling eggs, milk, cream, and doing all that is required of a farm family. Then in 1970 David, Katharina and family moved to Vanderhoof, where life was somewhat easier.

Katharina suffered from severe rheumatoid arthritis most of her adult life, and spent over 30 years in a wheel chair. Even with her disability and from the confines of her wheel chair, she accomplished a lot. She looked after herself and David as much as possible, cooking, baking, housework, even canning and freezing the good things their garden produced. She was able to operate the stove and kitchen taps with the use of sticks that David fashioned for her.

Katharina’s special gift was hospitality and she was happiest when family and friends came to visit, often spending the night. Almost single handedly she prepared tantalizing meals that everyone enjoyed.

Katharina loved music and sing - alongs; especially sons of praise to “Jesus Christ” her Lord and Savior. She spent much time in prayer and was always looking for ways to help others, caring very deeply about every member of her family, and every one around her.

In 2002 she and David moved to Omineca Lodge in Vanderhoof, where she enjoyed excellent care and was very grateful for the many visits from family and friends.

Katherina leaves behind David, her husband of 58 years. Children; Anne (Vern) Zeiler, Telkwa B.C., Helen (Ed) Utz, Telkwa B.C. Isaac (Luan) Thiessen, Mexico, Henry (Linda) Thiessen, Vanderhoof, and Margaret Reimer Edmonton Alta.

12 Grandchildren and 16 Great-Grandchildren.

Katharina is survived by 1 brother, Peter Wall, 2 sisters, Helena Krahn, and Mary Wiebe, all of Prespatou B.C.

The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the Staff at the Omineca Lodge, St. John’s Hospital, Grace Memorial Funeral Chapel, and all who helped with the funeral service and luncheon.
