July 27, 1923 - December 6, 2018
It is with sadness that we announce the death of Lorne Earl Whiteman 'Whitey' on Dec 6 2018. Born in Neepawa, Manitoba, to George and Grace Whiteman, he spent time in Lethbridge, Kaslo, Cranbrook, Clearwater, and the last 11 years in Vanderhoof with daughter Lorna.
Predeceased by wife Betty and both brothers Alf and Ted, he leaves Lorna (Rick) Beatty, Alan Whiteman, Sandra Forgie, Debbie (Terry) Davis, and Brenda (Dave) Brooks, 18 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild as well as many foster children.
He was a veteran (RCAF in WW II), a railroad worker on the 'Kaslo Cannonball', a fire ranger, logger, worked in construction and carpentry and legion barkeep in Clearwater, and the last several years a gardeners helper (as well as an avid wild blueberry and saskatoon picker). He wrote stories, sang songs, played guitar and loved to dance. When younger he was Akela to Cranbrook's cub pack as well as ran the junior forest rangers. He was involved with IOF, Legion and Lions clubs and a bowler, avid curler and bonspieler.
He will leave a big hole in many people's lives. A Celebration of Life will be held on his birthday July 27, 2019 at the Shuswap where his ashes will be added to moms. Any who wish to attend are welcome.
