Nelson "Nels" Thomas was born in Caroline, Alberta in 1942. His family moved to BC when he was young and he would call the province home for the rest of his life.
From the time he could drive, Nels was in a truck, and made his living hauling logs (and for a short time, mail) all over the province from the West Coast to the North. He enjoyed his time in Morfee Lake and Mackenzie while the dam was being built, regaling friends and family with stories of his adventures and misadventures there and elsewhere.
Nels passed suddenly on June 14th due to complications following a stroke. A confirmed bachelor after the passing of his wife Grace, Nels will be very much missed by his granddaughter Morgan, his neighbours and the many friends he made over his 45 years in Vanderhoof.
An informal Celebration of Life will take place at the Vanderhoof
Friendship Centre Thursday October 10th, beginning at 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or BC SPCA, as per Nels' wishes.
