June 23, 1950 - June 16, 2020
It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Richard Clive Beatty. Born in Victoria, he spent his childhood in the Yukon and Burnaby, joined the navy at 16, worked at Anvil in the Yukon, then became a millwright with Industrial Mill Installations and travelled the province. Met his wife in Ocean Falls then moved to Vanderhoof in 1981 with Plateau and later VSWAP, retiring in 2009. Leaves behind his wife Lorna, children Amanda (Marc Ruel), Kevin and Gaelan, granddaughters Genevieve and Melisande as well as mother Sharon Regimbel, brothers Kerri Beatty, Bradley Stewart, Mark Stewart, and Vince Beatty, and sister Diana (Jim) Warwick. An active volunteer and cofounder of Nechako Valley Search and Rescue, Rangers, and Civil Air search and rescue for over 30 years - if you add up each separately its over 76 years of volunteering- not to count the numerous call outs , searches and training!! He also helped out with air cadets and participated with the Drifting Squares square dance club. He was an avid fisherman, hiker, camper and outdoors man, teaching survival skills and orienteering and very much into BC history. He was also involved with ham radio at one point. His passing will leave a hole in many areas. A big thank you to Rangers, CASARA and NVSAR for their support and gatherings over the past 3 weeks- he greatly appreciated it - even with the social distancing! There will be a celebration of life for him on his birthday in June 2021 when COVID restrictions are relaxed and everyone can commiserate and celebrate together with hugs and handshakes. In the meantime his wish is that everyone sit down with friends and share some good memories (and perhaps a cigar and some good scotch).
