It is with sadness we announce the passing of our mother Vera Lenore Rudland. She was born in Fort Fraser, B.C. on June 06, 1924 and passed away at St. John’s Hospital in Vanderhoof, B.C. on July 21, 2011 after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She will be sadly missed by her sons Rand (Elise), Don (Azu), her two grandchildren Carleen (Boyd) and Bryce (Carolyn), sister-in-law Bryl Myers along with her many close friends. She was predeceased by her husband, dad, Eric in 2009 and her brothers Markle and Alton Myers. She had a passion for the area and a desire to preserve the history of the community by writing the book “Fort Fraser. Where the hell is that?” to record the experiences of many of the original families had as they moved from all parts of the world to Fort Fraser.
Although mom and dad moved to the Sunshine Coast in 1979 mom always considered Fort Fraser to be her “home”, and we are glad that her final days were at “home” with some of her life time friends.
A celebration of her life will take place later this summer. In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation to the BC Cancer Society.
