Victor Midzain

After battling cancer with dignity and courage, the family of Victor Midzain announces the passing of their beloved brother, brother-in-law and uncle. Vic passed away on May 16, 2005 at the Flin Flon General Hospital in Flin Flon, Manitoba at the age of 61 years.


Victor was predeceased by his parents, John and Rosie. He is survived by his siblings, Sophie (John) Ostrowski of Creighton, Saskatchewan, Walter (Gladys) of Chemanius, B.C., Mary (Tom) Antosh of Roblin, Manitoba. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews Phyllis Kozak of Creighton, Saskatchewan, Judy Allen of Yukon, Oklahoma, Kathy (John) Bunn of Kitimat, B.C. and Cory Midzain of Victoria, B.C., Andy (Gudrun) Antosh of Winnipeg, Angela Antosh of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Morris Antosh of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Melvin Antosh of Roblin, Manitoba and Sandra (Denis) Roy of Winnipeg, Manitoba. He is also survived by eleven great nieces and nephews. Vic was born in Merridale, Manitoba and attended Merridale School to Grade 8 and then Roblin Collegiate. His first job was at the Pool Elevator in Ethelbert, Manitoba. In 1967 he moved to Kitimat, B.C. and worked at the Gulf Service Station and later purchased the Gas Station. He later moved to Salmon Arm, B.C. and contract logged for Drew Sawmills. He then got a job with the Salmon Arm Golf Course developing holes and this became his dream job. For the past several years he was superintendent for Omenica Golf Course in Vanderhoof, B.C. He had the opportunity to develop nine holes. This was the love of his life and he enjoyed this for over twenty years. Vic was an avid curler and golfer. He liked fishing and always talked about the big one that got away. Vic always had a twinkle in his eye and a mischievous smile.


Prayers were said Thursday, May 19, 2005 at 7:30 p.m. Funeral services were held on Friday, May 20, 2005 at 10:00 a.m. from St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Roblin, Manitoba with the Rt. Rev. Mitred Father Nicholas Orest Rauliuk officiating. Interment followed in the St. John the Baptist Ukrainian Orthodox Cemetery, Roblin, Manitoba.
