Jensen Dick is a Young Achiever of note. He is currently in grade 4 at W.L. McLeod Elementary.

His mom, Renee Dick, shares his story. “My son, Jensen, has a goal. He wants to learn to swim. And knowing that there was a group who was raising money to build a pool, he asked me if he had a lemonade stand, could he donate the money raised to help them. I thought this was a great idea. So we contacted Zoe Dhillon and she provided him with an official Aquatic Centre fish bowl to raise his money in. After his first stand, he raised about $50, and decided that wasn’t enough, so he set a goal of raising $100 over the summer, and decided to also sell some baked goods with his lemonade. He spent hours in the kitchen, baking the goodies himself (and some were also provided by his grandma), and making lemonade. He easily surpassed his goal, and raised it to $500, and decided to start collecting bottles along with selling lemonade. Over the course of the summer, when he was only 8 years old, he raised $1,020 by collecting bottles, selling lemonade and goodies at the end of our driveway almost every weekend, and donating his own money that he was saving to buy himself a tablet.”

In March of last year Jensen was nominated for Junior Citizen of the Year at the Chamber of Commerce Business Excellence Awards, and he was thrilled to be announced the winner!

“I am so proud of my son. He had a goal, and he surpassed it, inspiring me, and our community. His ambition, generosity, and foresight was awesome.”

Well done Jensen, you set a fine example for everyone. We all can’t wait to get swimming with you next fall!
